Apprentice Eden Scheme
Level 2 Apprentices – Six Positions
Based in Penrith, Cumbria
Approved apprentice wage, minimum of £100 per week
Full-time, 18 month fixed-term contract. Commencing March 2014
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our apprentice team, working on the River Eden and other catchments in the North West. The emphasis of the apprenticeship is on practical ‘hands-on’ catchment management. This is part of an exciting Heritage Lottery project called Cherish Eden.
This is an amazing opportunity to participate and gain experience of the practical work of Eden Rivers Trust and its partners on the Lune, Tees, South Cumbria, Tyne and Yorkshire Dales.
Apprentices will also be working with key conservation partners such as Environment Agency, Natural England, Forestry Commission, National Trust and the Lake District National Park. A key aspect of ‘Apprentice Eden’ will be gaining skills and qualifications at Newton Rigg College through the completion of a Level 2 (Intermediate) Apprenticeship in Environmental Conservation, with the opportunity of progression to a Level 3 Apprenticeship.
You do not need to have lots of experience and qualifications, as you will gain on-the-job training and qualifications during the apprenticeship. What you do need to have is ambition and enthusiasm to develop your career in conservation management with a focus on rivers and wetlands. You will need to be committed to the apprenticeship and your development and you will be expected to carry out hard physical work in remote locations and in all weathers (Cumbria’s weather can be wet and wild!). The ability to work within a team will be essential as will a common sense approach to your own and others safety and welfare.
Please note that if you have a Level 4 or higher qualification you will not be eligible for this scheme.
