Devious Minds Show at Maulds Meaburn Institute Highly Entertaining

The Devious Minds show was as very clever and entertaining as expected! On October 10th about 50 people came along to see Tim Shoesmith and Maudsley, established members of the magic circle, perform a dazzling set of magic tricks and mental illusions. The event was organised by Helen Marsh of Maulds Meaburn and it proved very popular.

The act was divided into two performances with an intermission and was highly interactive from the outset. First Tim performed a series of amusing and amazing illusions that involved either: brilliant sleight of hand or pure magic or maybe a bit of both. The jury is still out on the matter. It was fast-paced and greatly entertaining.

Then Maudsley wowed us all with some mental illusions, telepathy and … again magic? There were incredible examples of (perfectly safe) mental manipulation, including human puppetry and the creation of a memory, erasure of that memory and substitution with another memory. It has to be seen to be believed really. All along there was amusing, jocular stage banter and the show appealed to all ages of people gathered.

The show built up to a fabulous finale – a rapid-fire succession of revelations that confirmed my understanding that I had no idea how it was all done, but that it all made an impossible, yet inevitable, sort of sense!
