Things are now moving forward. There’s good news about EU Clearance for the Connecting Cumbria Project.

Europe gives the green light for superfast broadband in Cumbria

Cumbria County Council’s new portfolio holder for the Connecting Cumbria superfast broadband project has welcomed the announcement by the European Commission that Cumbria has received full Major Projects Approval. This represents the final step in the process of validating the contract signed with BT in November of 2012, and unlocks the funding for the project at a national and international level.

About the Event
This event will provide information about the project and how it will be delivered. It will provide an opportunity to
understand the national context in which the project is set and look at the options and opportunities for Cumbria to
meet the challenge of expanding the superfast broadband (SFBB) network. The day will stimulate discussion around
the actions required to meet the wider Connecting Cumbria vision to deliver services into the remaining areas and
increased economic growth and development throughout the county.
The program will include:

  • The Connecting Cumbria Strategy
  • How the project will be delivered
  • The big build
  • Support for business and demand stimulation
  • The benefits of SFBB to the business sector
  • Learning from the experience of Superfast North Yorkshire in their first 12 months of roll-out
  • Exploring options and opportunities for expanding coverage
  •  Experience of local community projects
  • Q&A session with main contributors
