Opt4 Community Energy, Green Deal, Free Chimney balloons and letterbox covers

Further to our recent letter, we are pleased to report that we formally launched Opt4 Community Energy on Saturday 18 May, with the help of the vice chair of Eden District Council and the portfolio holder for the environment.  We are also in discussion with Tadea and Cumbria County Council to explore how we can bring Green Deal funding into Eden, to benefit the local population. These initiatives will take several months to bring to fruition, but any of your constituents living in the county council district of Eden Lakes can already receive free chimney balloons and draught-proof letterbox covers, thanks to the generosity of Tom Lowther in his former capacity as a county councillor.

We had originally planned to join with other communities in a collective switch on 3 June,  but Energy Helpline, who were organising this, are no longer proceeding with this auction as originally envisaged. You may continue to see publicity which mentions the June deadline, such as in parish newsletters, as these will have gone to press before our new position became clear.

Instead, working with Energy Helpline, we’ll still be able to offer the best market rates but will now be able to help people switch at a time of their choosing, rather than having to wait for auctions held at certain times of the year. As previously, we will receive commission on every switch at no cost to the customer, thus bringing money into Eden. This money  will be invested in the local initiatives to help reduce both the need for and cost of energy.

We would really appreciate your support in encouraging your constituents to come through Opt4 Community Energy to check for the best tariffs for their gas and electricity. Please point people to our website, www.opt-4.org, where they’ll find full details about the charity, and the Switch and Save initiative or use our freephone number 0800 193 3394.

If you’ve any questions, or would like some publicity materials to display during your surgeries or in your area, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Peter Ward

  1. Appreciating the time and effort you put into your website and detailed information you offer.

It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while
that isn’t the same out of date rehashed material.
Excellent read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS
    feeds to my Google account.
